Apologies for returning once again to the subject of crab but it is one of my favourite summer foods and this was the outstanding match of last week.

Not the most appealing food and wine pairing you may think but I have to assure you it was delicious! It was at the newly opened Berners Tavern which is run by chef-of-the-moment Jason Atherton.

Maybe the best front-of-the-telly snack idea I’ve come across this Christmas: French fries with caviar and crème fraiche dip @bebebob. Which of course makes it spendy for a snack but you could pull the same trick with lumpfish roe. The schnitzel would be a bit more of a hassle to make at home but it was very very good. Add a glass (or two) of champagne and the top notch company of @thaneeprince and you have the perfect Christmas lunch. Also an utterly dreamy plate of ricotta and cavolo nero agnolotti with pumpkin and sage butter under a billowy cloud of parmesan. (The pasta is always worth ordering but enough for two if you have other dishes so I’d share.) Like a mature grand cru Chablis.
